American Flags Honoring Troops Replaced After Being Torn Down
American flags that are supposed to honor troops serving in Iraq have once again been torn off the Westport Island Bridge. It's the fourth time the flags were torn down. One island resident calls is "despicable".
Bud Greenleaf and his wife started putting up the flags on the bridge to support their son who is in Iraq. Each time, vandals have torn the flags down and thrown them in the river.
....If one or both of the young (assumedly / probably) punk perps were discovered hanging under that self-same bridge some fine Morning?
A real tragedy.... :(
Hey whoever you are...........Keep your hands off those flags!!!!
These perps need to be punished in the Public Square.
Sounds like a good opportunity for video surveillance.
As few as 30 years ago things like this did not happen in towns where people worked for a living - fishermen, farmers, woodsmen, etc.
The consequences, often far outweighing the offense, were too strong.
Freedom of expression runs both ways. Gone are the days when teachers knew who needed a good whipping and let it happen fairly at recess.
I'm just saying...

Times are ugly, but we needn't stoop to imitating True Sons of the Deep Sayouth.
We could reinstitute pillories & dunking stools.

Your thinking is much like that of Al-Qaeda.
Whoever did this is despicable but your suggestion is bizarre.

God Paul then the ACLU woud come out and support of free speach, If there parents used a belt there may not have been a problem.
oh wait Belt on a childs butt nope can't do that any more Child abuse
Upside-down by their ankles, naked, would be funny, not bizarre.
O.K., not naked - with a flag superglued to their chest.
Remember to glue it on upside down so it would be flying correctly when they are dropped over.
We've come quite close to the "barbarian at the gate" response on this issue. Effrontery affronted does not reqire barbarity.
Exactly who are the barbarians again?
I say it's the ANSWER/World Worker's Party crowd. Tearing down America's institutions.
The civil war is not in Iraq...
A revival of stocks in the town square where people that vandalize property could be gazed upon for awhile might just do the trick.
How about a scarlet "I" (for "Idiot") on their foreheads?
24 hour surveilance until they are caught, followed by what was referred to as a "blanket party" for those of you who were in the military. Just enough to be a reminder of how decent people should act.
How about community service -- for the ENTIRE community, after paying the cost for ALL the flags and the investigation of the crime, in addition to the cost for same?
Publish it in advance that upon self identification and paying the cost of flags ripped off to date, we will settle for probation.
Last chance to come clean, big pay if no response, plus everybody gets a landscaper.
WGME Is reporting a woman was just cought in the act. More at 11.
"Honest, I was taking them down to prevent somebody else from taking them down!"
That's what the lady said. You can't make this stuff up!
... Would anybody be the least bit surprised if this "lady" (and I think that I'd use that term a bit loosely in regards to a traitor) turns out to be an "educator" and loyal MEA/NEA Member?
I, for one, would not.

The owner of De Terre on Water Street in Bath Maine, is issued a summons for removing flags from the from the Westport Bridge. She claims she took them so nobody else would.
"Police say the passerby blocked her car in with his car and wouldn't allow her to leave until police showed up. "
Thank you passer By.. You rock,.
Little Miss Two-Names decides what is right and acts without thinking, our interests be damned.
Sounds like she's destined for a leadership position in Maine State government!
How will this sentence compare with putting up 1000 flags at a veterans memorial site?
"DeTerre Pottery & Specialty Gifts, 227 Water St (Via the Arch). 442-0852. Pottery by Heather Willoughby Bertrand. "
Artist = Leftist
I wonder if she accompanied communist sympathizer Twoomey in the bus to DC on the 17th?
While anyone has the right to "innocent before being found guilty," I find the following statement from the article on WCSH purely amazing:
Police say a passer-by saw 23-year-old Heather Willoughby-Bertrand throwing the flags into her car. She claims she stole them so nobody else would.
Didn't she ever learn anything when she was 8 years old? That line only works on cookies.
I hope she is proven guilty if warranted, and given some jail time as a deterrent to future "public service" activities of this kind.
Just Google the name. Nuff said.
I am an artist, and I am not a leftist, I am a Capitalist.
