Arkansas Mom Gives Birth to 17th Child
LITTLE ROCK "” The Duggars are once again pulling out the pink ruffles and lace as they prepare for the birth of baby number 17.

Michelle Duggar said Monday in a telephone interview from her northwest Arkansas home that the whole family is excited about the arrival of the baby girl they will name Jennifer Danielle, keeping with the family tradition of giving the child a name that begins with J.

Jennifer Danielle is due July 27...CLIP..."I feel like a 20-year-old kid, but I'm realizing my body isn't that 20-year-old.
I'll bet labor is a breeze by now. 8)

How the "oh, so tolerant" left views the Duggars!

See the sneering [url=http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2005/10/19/...
It's wrong to be this judgmental. Wrong to suggest that it is exactly this kind of weird pathological protofamily breeding-happy gluttony that's making the world groan and cry and recoil, contributing to vicious overpopulation rates and unrepentant economic strain and a bitter moral warpage resulting from a massive viral outbreak of homophobic neo-Christians across our troubled and Bush-ravaged land. Or is it?

I've never read such a confluence of envy, rage, pride, broken-hearted unhappiness and ignorance.

Thanks. I think.

I can remember discussing this family on AMG when their 16th child was born!
 Some of the replies were nearly as vile as that in the SFgate article Al posted

I thought the writing was exceptional. Too bad the author uses that talent for hateful purposes. What a self-centered ass.

No foolin'. A clueless ass, too:
Where is the counterbalance, to offset the damage?

Where is, in other words, the funky tattooed intellectual poetess who, along with her genius anarchist husband, is popping out 16 funky progressive intellectually curious fashion-forward pagan offspring to answer the Duggar's squad of über-white future Wal-Mart shoppers? Where is the liberal, spiritualized, pro-sex flip side?
Well, not making a value judgment on this one, Ace, but have you ever considered the idea that they were aborted?

Can you imagine how many descendants they are going to have? Enough to populate a small country.

It just kills the foaming-at-the-mouth, God-hating leftists that many Christians such as the Duggars choose to have large families because they actually enjoy having many children around:
...the couple sees each child as a blessing from God, Michelle Duggar said they will, as long as she is able, accept each child they are given.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

LMD...what a hoot. I think it is great that she can handle so many kids...I still (as a woman who just gave birth a few months ago..) think she is nuts....

I think they've got one of those families where (gasp) the older children actually pitch in and help with the younger ones. That doesn't happen in families so much these days.

I wonder how the older kids feel about it all, though?

No kidding. Can we imagine the whining when the nausea, back pain and the shortness of breath set in, not to mention the STRETCH MARKS?????

BTW - labor is NEVER a "breeze," no matter how many times a woman goes through it. Try it sometime.

The Duggar family appears to be healthy, happy, and incredibly well-organized. God bless them.

I know people are going to jump down my throat for saying this -

But I don't agree with the Duggars having this many children. I think they are putting their own desires ahead of the needs of their children. (ie the mother stating she can't imagine a house w/o a toddler in it).

I just don't see how all 17 children really have a childhood or get as much attention as they need. I've watched the show, and although the children seem well adjusted and happy - the older ones always have a baby on their hip. It's good that they all chip in doing laundry and cooking - but when they were building their house the kids had to become carpenters.

I have nothing against kids helping to do chores and chipping in - but with 17 kids the parents are literally dependant on their children cooking, cleaning, and providing childcare.

I don't think it's the best situation for a child when they live with a single parent and are forced into this sort of situation - and I know there are many on here who feel the same way.

A few months ago people on this forum were arguing about a single woman who was artificially inseminated because she wanted a child but had no partner. People argued it wasn't the best situation for the child because it would be too difficult raising a child alone etc.

Why is it that these 17 kids are seen as learning life lessons, yet the child to-be in the other article was seen as having a disadvantage?

I grew up in a family of four, and I babysat when my parents needed a night out, helped tie shoes, make PB & J sandwiches etc. I was there to help my mother and learned about childcare - but I didn't have to do it full time - I suspect the older Duggar children do.

If I spent my entire childhood as a mother, you can bet I wouldn't want children when I got older.

Don't laugh - it happens! I have a reliable story from my dear pal the OB nurse.... called "trick pelvis;" the pregnant woman tried to tell the docs her mother had one, they didn't believe her. Long story short, one push, and the kid went flying across the room. Fortunately, all ended well, somehow.

Hey - I call that night shift.

I think there's enough whining from both sexes to go around - it all depends on the individual.

My friend the OB nurse said the doctor in charge of that particular delivery almost had a heart attack on the spot. He was sitting in the catcher's position at the foot of the mother's bed, but turned away from the mother for a second. Meanwhile, he casually said, "okay, go ahead and push," and ZZZZZZ-BANG - the baby went flying by him. I believe the cord did act as a little bungee, and cushioned the descent somewhat.
:D

I don't think he was ever quite the same again, somehow.

Mary,
I'm not going to jump on you. I will say though that I spent my whole childhood, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and taking care of my younger sibling. It was only me and my little brother. Yep, by the time I was 12 I was doing it all and by myself. I wouldn't go back and change a bit of it because I am who I am because of it. I don't think I missed out on anything either.

When I was 12 I had most of the responsibility for my 3 younger sisters, aged 2-11. It was a lot of responsibility. Frankly, I wouldn't put a kid through that if I could help it.

A 7,000 square foot home?

Guess they have the means to support all the kiddies. Good luck.
