I'd guess that as many of the past killing in National Parks the victims were not shot in the head while they slept, but it was where a confrontation by the perps was initiated and after assuming through govmint edict and the attitude of their victims, the campers were defenseless, the predators killed their prey while looking into their eyes at close range.

But not to worry the Park Service is on the job and will catch the perps when hell freezes over.

Who can argue with such thoughtful reasoning?

Blame the victim, blame the parents, then blame the system -- blame everyone but the shooter himself.

Blame the shooter is understood Heal

Similar to not blaming a bear for a bear attack. The point is that you should have the means to shoot the bear, just like the animal or animals that killed this couple.

Whatever animal killed these people should be killed, when you leave it up to after the fact, nothing is solved other then possibly at some point removing them from the gene pool.

What is the violent crime rate in National Parks?

I believe it is fairly low Dan.

Nothing to get overly excited about, unless you are the dead guy. The unsolved murder rate though is high, considering the remoteness of the murder, that's understandable. What is somewhat of a problem is that the Park Service has jurisdiction in the investigations and they are not the best detectives out there, as you can imagine. Don't know whether they can bring in the FBI or not. Don't you know?

It would be a good way to off somebody, unfortunately, if you have a grudge, or want to start as low-risk serial killer. I'd suspect the former, as I expect the cops will, but the later is more frightening and the point of having better means of self-defense then your camp ax.

Wasn't there a case where a guy pushed his new wife off a cliff in Acadia? I think he got convicted.

I believe the FBI does have jurisdiction over crimes on federal lands.

The reasoning was just fine. And a joke at my own expense is apparently too much for you to comprehend.

Never go to sleep whether your home or out in the woods without turning on your 6th sense. Make yourself invisible, leave lots of dry brush and dead branches around you so they snap when stepped on. Sleep with your back to a big tree so if your startled awake you're covering all 180 degrees with having to move anything but your eyes..... listen behind you. Wait til morning, check for a pulse, make a teacup sized fire and your coffee then.

Take the dog! and a cell phone w/camera and use it to photograph suspicious people hanging around parking lots.

I've actually caught criminals who broke into our car leaving the park at 2 a.m.; woke up the ranger with license plates and descriptions....we tried to stop them....hah, and the Rangers questioned our sanity, even when I showed them the cuts on a duffle bag on the roof and our neighbor's pregnant wife verified the attempted theft.

Rangers have a stake in denying crime; just like school principals do with schoolyard crime.

It's up to you as a concerned citizen to enforce the law in a Park or wilderness area...just be very careful!
....does anyone have Mark Trail's cell number?

They didn't say how old this disgusting perp is, but I hope he's old enough to face the death penalty. What a despicable creep.

They said he used a rifle. I bet he shot them from a distance.

Happened on my wedding day in 1987. My wife brings that up at least once a year, especially if we are standing on a cliff. The same guy was later involved in some incident where he was found with all sorts of explosives in his basement, I believe.

Hah! Take that, coppers, we have no basement!

('HARRUMPH') "In that case, Mr. MacGregor, we understand that you've been detonating dead vermin in your attic spaces. May we inspect? I must warn you sir, that any explosives we find can and will be used against you!"

Detectives...believed the students were killed the next day...shot multiple times....

Boatman was being held...on a grand theft charge of stealing the murder weapon, an AK-47....

People go off the cliffs all the time in Acadia...kind of a guessing game as to why; just like people who 'dissappear' while hiking in Baxter...some are suicides of elderly or terminally ill hikers, others are ??

We were threatened by rutting moose...scary, had to retreat to the safety of a leanto; attacked many times by vicious blackflies, deer flies, green head flies, and voracious ocean mosquitos. I believe they are property of the State...why can't Baldacci control his insects better? Imagine how this would improve tourism if he could!

He then took the gun back where he'd stolen it, thinking he could "lose" the weapon and escape detection.

Thank goodness he's lazy, and didn't feel like walking. Otherwise he might well have gotten away with this.

Seeing how I was invited....
Is it possible that the killer was one of the hundreds of thousands of people whose life has been seriously disrupted by enviromentalists? If so there will be many that find it difficult to work up much sympathy for these budding enviromentalists.

I premised the barrage of stereotypes on a conditional (if/then clause). IF your posting jests, THEN you might appear etc, etc, etc. That's important for debating: they teach that in those government schools You did not jest (I claim on your behalf that you misspoke) and therefore the conditional is negated. The prosecutor provides the defense.
...and your excuse for missing his conditional was?

That and his sentiment does have a point. There are a great many people who have had their lives adversely impacted by environmentalists. Among those people surely some, at the least, would find sympathy hard to muster. When some are among hundreds of thousands the some are indeed a many.

So when do we actually sacrifice to fulfill our obligation of 'stewardship' over the earth and all it's creatures?
Not condoning enviro-crimes, but I rarely see conservatives and/or Christians putting the environment before financial considerations.
I was sickened by a post the other day that made light of animal testing for freakin' makeup, of all things. That ain't cancer research, folks.
There's no need of it.
Scientifically, we advance.
Spiritually, we're disconnected.
Yeah yeah, I know.
That's life.
Doesn't have to be, though.
Never lose your compassion.
As I've said before, I think we're failing the test...

Since you're obviously so "teddibly" unhappy here, why don't you find a more suitable online home?

Clearly, we're unworthy of your delightful diatribes.

(gee, I always wanted to use that in a sentence, but gosh, the Friday the 13th movies just don't script out that way).

re-pub, It is a mistake on your part to assume my father mis-spoke. The commandment says to honor our mother and father. It does not say to love them. You have my father confused with my daughter. She is the one who rides horses. If verbosity makes you the champion poster on AMG, you take the ribbon. By the way, please don't bother to give me the caveat. I hate fish eggs.
Naran, I think we maybe shouldn't just blow off everything re-pub posts. After all, a talking a*- was used to deliver a message to King Nebuchadnezzar.
