Silly Season in Augusta

It's the silly season in Augusta. Why don't these clowns just stick to whoopie pies and such serious matters?

"AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The Maine Legislature on Tuesday passed a ban on the use of handheld phones and devices while driving.

If enacted, Maine would become the 15th state in the nation to prohibit the use of devices while driving, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Windham, originated in the Transportation Committee and was later passed by both the Senate (21-14) last Friday and the House (85-60) on Tuesday."

Because one cannot get out

Because one cannot get out of their wrecked car or truck and thump them after they have
killed you because of destracted driving.

If you can afford a smart or dumb phone with bluetooth capability you can afford a hands free ear device. !

Hold the phone. Did Colorado

Hold the phone. Did Colorado just make it legal to text and drive?

SOURCE

" . . Before now, any text messaging or manual data entry by a motorist was prohibited. “The simple fact is that if you are texting while driving but not being careless, it’s no longer illegal,” said Tim Lane at the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council . . "

The bill is confusing. Will

The bill is confusing. Will Ham radio operators be allowed to use their radios to contact the NWS with weather alerts? Will volunteer firemen be able to use their radios? How about volunteer EMTs? Will truckers be able to use their radios? A loaded logging truck comes out a one lane logging road and announces, "Coming down; mile four." You don't want to meet him on that one lane road. How good are you at backing up? The logging truck cannot back up that hill with a loaded logging truck.

It is indeed the silly season in Augusta. Maine already has a driving while distracted law. We do not need this further regulation.

Hopefully Lepage will veto

Hopefully Lepage will veto this BS. Or is the grave yards just full of people killed by others answering their mobilephone while driving. Or is it about revenue enhancement.

With 3 kids all fighting with each other in the back seat, a beer and a cig in front while drying fingernail polish; who has time to talk on a phone anyway?

Now that's funny, but sadly it's all too realistic. And probably juggling a phone too.

Our distracted driving law covers all of this. We do not need a new one. Period. Please veto this Governor LePage.

Apparently this bill does not

Apparently this bill does not pertain to "band radios and two way radios..." whatever the heck a "band radio" is.
I think this wording seems from the ham radio folks trying to convince lawmakers that they are " special, " sort of like shotgun folks wanting to be left out of proposed gun legislation while agreeing that it is ok to go after those bad old assault rifles. I think the wording was meant to be "amateur band". But since we apparently are dealing with people who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground anyway and just want another nanny state law, it came out as "band."
But yeah, apparently radios will still be ok...
Roger, when you're in the woods, I think the log truckers mostly use cb and murs radios. Murs is just outside of the 2 meter amateur band and can be picked up on many but not all 2 meter amateur rigs.... if you don't want to buy a murs dedicated radio..
But I see you're a Tech, so you knew that....

Yeah there are a lot of

Yeah there are a lot of dipshits out there, many of whom meet in Augusta under a dome, but there are other dipshits, in the population that willing go along with every law passed by the dipshits because they think it makes them SAAAAAAFE.

If it saves only one life? The creed of dipshits everywhere.

At least someone in Augusta

At least someone in Augusta has common sense, thanks give for vetoing this bill. And Bruce, do you actually think another law is going to stop a person from using their phone?

In some cases maybe. There

In some cases maybe. There again we still have murders has that law stopped them.

If someone causes an accident because of being distracted whether or not charged will not fix your car.

If somone is stopped for doing it before an accident I can live with it.
Personally for a number of years I donot have to holdit as I use device with bluetooth tech. and my last two vehicles have had same tech. allowing handsfree operation.

I wonder how many accidents

I wonder how many accidents are going to be caused by people pulling over to the side of the road to answer their phone. You can see that already someone on the shoulder talking or texting on their fn phone.

If you can't answer a phone while driving then you shouldn't even be on the road.

Gerald Ford Society can't chew gum and walk at the same time.

You know Bruce not everyone can afford the good life related to working for the state for 40 years and the benefits of that retirement plan. Of course those dipshit legislators who voted for the ban can.

Mr, MIke

Mr, MIke
Is that all you have to counter with ?

That may well be , but if this law prevents one of those onehanded drivers from not killing or injuring me it is worth it.
By the way not everyone can understand , if your so poor what in hell are doing on a computer anyway.

Ya mean Bluetooth Bruce, am I

Ya mean Bluetooth Bruce, am I so poor that I can't afford Bluetooth in my work truck. Now that is exactly the mindset that comes from the dipshits under the dome.

The Dome where the elite meet and the fine dine on the working class that actually might want to answer a phone call while they drive down the road.

The retirees under the wealth and them putting in 40 years of sucking up every law put out by the dipshits under the dome.

Like I said there will just be as many rear enders as some law-abider puts on the brake and slides into a driveway to answer their phone, meanwhile I'm eating a sandwich and all of a sudden some dipshit slams on his brakes, what the f, all the dipshit had to do was pick up his phone.

Naw the Gerald Ford Society is what our country has become can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Let's be SAAAFE out there and don't smoke tobacco.

So basically it is another

So basically it is another useless law, that may or may not prevent an accident just like the smoking in car with minors, underage smoking, distracted driving , will we ever have enough laws ?
BTW, I do not have a cellphone AKA electronic leash.
