Restaurant/Food Inspection Reports

Some areas of the USA publish their restaurant inspection reports. The only one I found in Maine is for Portland at the link below.

I have emailed Maine.gov to find out if they do have such a program and if not, why not. These reports are paid for by the public and the results affect the public health. Lets see what come s back.

Watcher, years ago I tried to

Watcher, years ago I tried to get state inspection reports on some local restaurants and emailed the head honcho in Augusta. Supposedly no centralized filing system is maintained, nor were they being stored on computer.

I was told that I would need to track down the individual area inspector, as they kept the inspection reports in the trunks of their state vehicles. I kid you not.

Most states make public all results of all such inspections, good or bad, and post them online and/or in the windows of the establishments.

I think maybe the Maine Restaurant Association lobbies to keep inspection reports elusive...

This link shows the state health/food inspection program districts with the district inspectors' names, as of Dec 2018.

The cities of Portland, South Portland, Lewiston and Auburn have their own inspection programs.

Thanks BlueJay. I saw that.

Thanks BlueJay. I saw that. Portland publishes its inspection reports. I did not see where the other ones did.

Having been subject to the

Having been subject to the process up front and personal, I can tell you that you won't find anything but a state employee trying to justify their job, in most cases.
They never left our place without warning about one thing or another, no matter how well run and clean the establishment was.
If you really want a report about the back end of a food service operation, talk to the delivery drivers.
You'll get an unbiased opinion that you can't get anywhere else.

Inspectors always find

Inspectors always find something. Even if it's been there all along. A recent safety inspection where I work called out a sign on the door to the metal shop. Not sufficient, so they said. Problem is... it's been there since the lab was built/commissioned in 1986. Same sign, passed on by countless inspectors since then.
