Random encounters with AMG posters

It is interesting to run into other AMG folks out in the "real" world, I met two over the weekend totally out of this context and enjoyed conversations with both of them. Not being one to attend the luncheons, I haven't had much interaction with the folks around here, but I always keep an eye out for a familiar name. (And who knows how many of the anonynmous ones I have already met?)

Anyone else bump into each other and make that connection?

Yep. Sometimes it's a pleasure, and sometimes it's rather alarming.

Some people have never seen a piano with shoulder straps before.

Yes, I have, and it is usually a pleasant encounter, though I always catch flack for my posts. One time a lady told me "I was nicer in person" which was nice to say.

Apollo - you were one of the nice encounters. And you are far nicer in person.

Well I guess I'll know when I see you, Melvin.

I am still waiting to meet Naran in the Cinnabon line, but no luck so far. Maybe she's in the Popeye's line?

I welcome visitors. Just stop by the cemetary and you will find me- either that or haunting the halls of government.

I have found that I know a few posters on here. I hope to get to a luncheon down the lewiston way, though. I am from that area. : ) People generally are nicer in person. : )

Well, I'm married to one poster, so I see him all the time.

I've also become acquainted with probably 20 posters here by virtue of memberships in coalitions and political committees which are a direct result of my posting here.

I've been to the Farmington and Millinocket luncheons, so have met quite a few people there as well.

And a few distributors of All Maine Matters post here, and of course, I've met them as well.

I find that I always look differently at the posts of people once I've met them, since I can more or less apply their voice -- and tone -- when I read their stuff.

Bob - I've given up Cinnabon and Popeye's - getting into gardening training mode. Fighting those woodchucks takes stamina!

I met Bud Landry a couple of times.
Bud, I am the guy that had Bo Gritz's book, "Called to Serve".
That was a while back before I ever heard of AMG.

Maybe we could ask Scott to create a special pin that we could wear when out in public. Nothing to large or obvious, but to another AMGer it would be noticed. He could charge a few bucks for it and help offset the costs of this forum we all seem to enjoy.

My encounter with Bob on Sat., was, um 'wooden' and his 'bark' was absent.

Bob, did you untangle those buyers who got caught in that big drying rack?
...still detoxifying from the endless samples of salsa and chocolate. phew!

I survived just fine, thank you, with a few extra calories to take home. Just part of the job.

The candidates debate in Yarmouth was practically an AMG convention.

One of my weirdest encounters was attending an Ethics Commission meeting and seeing Bob Stone, Stavros Mendros, and Lewiston Liberal.

And none of us were up on charges!

Dan - actually, when I met you I was surprised at how young you are, but it wasn't alarming! "Alarming" would more describe meeting Wingman for the first time! :D Actually, he's very nice, once one gets past the resemblance to Charlie Manson.

We've been to the Bangor luncheon as well. I haven't posted here a lot lately (only because I don't want to enter a conversation that I might not be able to see through to the end), but I do read it often and yes, it's been very nice to meet some of you in person. Some of you, I found I already knew, but didn't know who you were here.

Riddle me this; how many AMG'ers has one met without knowing it?

Reprise!

Yesterday, Ken picked up the October issues of All Maine Matters and picked me up in Bangor in the evening. We stopped at Denny's for supper and were each going through a copy of AMM while waiting for the waitress.

While I was paging through, a young man came over to the table and asked where he could get a copy of "that paper."

I offered him mine and mentioned that we published it and had thousands more in the car.

He introduced himself to us as Bangor Taxpayer. We talked for awhile, and it was quite a nice conversation. It was a pleasure to meet you, BTP!

It turns out that I knew an AMG regular for some time before he revealed himself to me. In person, he does not appear to be the nut that he reveals himself to be online. :D

What's the record for reviving an old post? Six months is pretty good, Michelle.
