Paper Wants to Stop Voter Referendums say its to easy to do

We need to know the cost of referendums

12/16/2008

Maine's penchant for voter referendums and the relative ease with which issues can be placed on ballots, locally and statewide, makes for a costly, inefficient approach to governing that should be changed.

...........................Two more tax-related ballot questions reportedly are coming from conservative camps: a tax-cap provision similar to what voters rejected in 2006 and a measure to cut the vehicle-excise tax by half.

Now this should start some talking  :?:

Same editorial in the KJ this morning. No surprise--they are big fans of big government and have been for a long time. Typical liberal "we know what is best for you--don't interfere with the process" attitude.

It ain't gonna happen unless 2/3s of the legislature and the voters want it to happen.

Interesting that the paper recommends restricting the people's process. Try the same socialist tactics on their paper and watch them implode with anger.

If our Legislature was answerable to the people we would not need referendums. Because they totally ignore the will of the people we need to have a way to force them to listen.
