Morality on the left

Still trying to get a leftist religion going, they've rediscovered morality.
Anyone who labors today for social progress has no assurance it will come to pass tomorrow – and if it does it may not be in their lifetimes. This is a conviction that requires motivation beyond logic. This is a civic faith.

The Cory Booker in this piece is hardly recognizable.
New Jersey senator Cory Booker recently reflected on the concept of unity for an episode of On Being, the seminal public radio show that examines life’s deepest questions. He said one of his favorite books, the 1960s sociocultural analysis The Fire This Time, by James Baldwin, outlines horrifying truths but ends with two hopeful pages about coming together.

“Here is Baldwin, who just talked about these fissures in our society, that ends this book by calling to blacks and whites to be ‘like lovers,’ he writes, and to insist upon and create a new consciousness ...

And once again, oblique references to the discovery that people in conservative places might not be monsters...
“You have these people that are monsters of the world, and they’re my neighbors who I see laughing with their kids at the park,” said Hammet, who identifies as queer. “You’re forced to be like, ‘All right, how can I accept that these are normal people that have an extreme view?’ Dangerous and problematic but also human.”
"Identifies" as? Is this another new thing?

Identity Politics is bad? Who knew?
Perceived righteousness in the wrong hands has led to countless wars and tragedies. For me, a good guide is this: Any set of “values” that draws lines between or hierarchies among people is bogus.

Double Think?
Now happily non-religious, I’m used to holding simultaneous truths that are often painted as contradictory – like, say, revering hard facts while feeling motivated by something deeper than our minds can comprehend.

And don't miss the re-definition of "miracle":
This reminded me of a line from the bestselling spiritual tome A Course in Miracles, which defines “miracle” not as a favor granted by a bearded deity but as the correction of a misperception – specifically, the shift from fear to love: “A miracle is never lost. It may touch many people you have not even met, and produce undreamed of changes in situations of which you are not even aware.”

Even worse, the dogma

Even worse, the dogma destroys people. As usual, the Pharisees don't care.

Sanctions weren't immoral

Sanctions weren't immoral when a Dem imposed them, but sanctions are immoral now!

Everything is a morality issue when your politics IS your religion.

Luckily, you have a President who is the pinnacle of morality.

Not what I would have chosen,

Not what I would have chosen, but far better than Hillary. When presented with such a choice, I choose the one who can do the least damage. Hillary, with all of Obama's minions in place, could do far more damage in far less time. She'd have all the press minions in her court too. Trump can't even get 8 minutes of airtime without a struggle, and everything he tries gets tied up in court. That wouldn't happen to a dem prez either.

I'd rather have an ethical fiscal conservative. The press colluded with the Clinton campaign (see the DNC leaks) to make sure the only choice was one she could beat easily. She promptly failed to do so.

You go right on about all those wonderful attributes... you know, the ones the dem candidate didn't have.

It was a horrible choice. I

It was a horrible choice. I voted for Gary Johnson because I didn’t want to feel dirty. I know I threw away a vote, but I don’t feel guilty.

Hillary or Trümp - either way as POTUS they’d be divisive, unpopular, and polarizing. Neither one can claim moral superiority, though they both try.

Many of us see right through them both.

It's called an aptronym. A

It's called an aptronym. A name that so aptly and ironically identifies the holder as to defy improvement.

Willie, Weiner, etc., etc. You couldn't pick their names better.

An aptronym is a REAL name,

An aptronym is a REAL name, not an obscene or vulgar pejorative made up by a disgusting basement-dwelling troll.

Wrong answer, try again.

Ugenetoo what's interesting

Ugenetoo what's interesting is matt's continuing reference to Toolsmith as stoolsniff.....There seems to be a linkage there between a Kancho players' sticking their finger in butts and matt's anal fixation....now with the added bonus of sniffing.

You're clearly on to something... scatology is in virtually every post. Religious bigotry is in many, but not nearly as many.

Didn't Freud write something about the scat fixation?

The name stoolsniff describes

The name stoolsniff describes the predilection of its bearer to always stick his nose in supposedly wretched information. One gets the sense that he enjoys it.

Expat, you need to be fair, as far as Brucie goes. He seems to be as interested in dried semen as he is bum bums.
