IP to be Verso Paper
By Jami Badershall, Staff Writer
Thursday, July 13,2006

JAY - The four mills being sold by International Paper in Jay, Bucksport, Michigan and Minnesota will operate under the name of Verso Paper Holdings LLC.

[N]o closing date on the sale of IP has been set. [T]he company did not want to release the new name to the public until the deal was closed, "but for legal reasons, it had to be disclosed."

Brokers on Wall Street are already using the [new] name....

The company is unknown to me, but let it be known that the verso page in a manuscript is the LEFT hand page. A fearful portent.

This is a consortium of private investors.

They appear to be a new holding company that chose its name from an old printing and paper term. "Verso" is the back side of a printed page.

Verso is also the back side of the printed page, or the back of a book. But beware of the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy

Verso to temporarily suspend Maine mill
Memphis Business Journal
7/25/08

Verso Paper Corp. announced Friday that it will close its Bucksport, Maine mill for two weeks to maintain demand.

The suspension will begin on Sept. 8 and result in the loss of more than 13,000 tons of coated groundwood production, Verso officials said.

IMO. Investing in a Maine paper mill is risky at best. (Perhaps "the state" will pick up a few shares....)

How does reducing supply effect demand? Somebody needs to review Econ. 101...

rklindell -

Agreed. Verso's thinking seems to be: If we stop making product to sell our customers will want it all the more.

I think Verso may be selling carbon credits soon.

They have too much inventory on hand which is why they are curtailing production for those two weeks.

Were I work we make spiral cores for Maine's paper mills

The rumor we are hearing is they will not shut down because the town has threatened to fine them millions of dollars because of energy they buy off the mill .
I have no idea however that is what some workers there have told our truck drivers .

( wow the collins ad is on tv right now  she makes me sick to my stomach ! )

Mill meeting held at Verso Paper
By admin • Oct 23rd, 2008 • Category: Business

“Dick Jackson, mill manager at the Androscoggin Mill, delivered an enthusiastic presentation on the Verso Paper organization and the vitality of the Androscoggin Mill. In addition to Verso mill employees/UMaine alumni, there were many Fortune 500 company members in attendance. This supports the fact the Maine paper industry is the economic engine of the state and Maine continues to firmly hold its place as the second largest paper-producing state in the nation,” said John Wolanski.

Verso Analyzing Market, Production

By Donna M. Perry , Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 24, 2009

JAY - Verso Paper is analyzing its market and its production to figure out the company's next move in the global economic recession.

A decision has not been made on what will happen next, but it is "highly likely" that there will be additional downtime at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay and the Bucksport Mill in Bucksport, company spokesman Bill Cohen said Monday.

If there is downtime, it isn't known how long it will last, he said.
