Emma Lazarus

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Give us your address, Bongboy.
We'll see that you get all the huddled masses you can stand.

Wonderful stuff. So welcoming

Wonderful stuff. So welcoming to those who come honestly, with no purpose of evasion. A tradition that should continue.

None of it justifies accommodating those who evade our laws, putting themselves and others at risk.

Human trafficking, terrorism, crime, disease epidemics, smuggling, illegal trade in animals and animal parts, and drug trafficking are all much easier with a porous border.

The next time someone complains about opioid deaths, smuggled counterfeit products and poached animal items, modern slaves in various sweatshops, or diseases spreading from abroad remember they are blocking any effort to stop it. If a terrorist comes across that border, it will be because it's been made easy.

My mother’s 86 year old

My mother’s 86 year old husband who came here as a teenager from Venezuela and became an American citizen through the process asks ,”why should these people get a free pass?” Good question.

In case you didn't know it Tommy, every one of your posts is referring to legal immigrants not criminal invaders.

It was during George

It was during George Washington's Presidency that laws and immigration requirements were established. Our government knew then what the current dung heap of Democrats, Socialists, Open Borders swine, Globalist Traitors have forgotten...namely uncontrolled borders is a sure path to destruction of the country's culture, freedom and its very existence.

From an article by Presidential History Geeks.

"....it was on Washington's watch, and under his signature that the nation’s first immigration law, the Naturalization Act of 1790, was passed by Congress. Washington said that he welcomed people “of good moral character” who would better the country while readily assimilating with its culture. The Naturalization Act set out the rules to be followed by the United States in the granting of national citizenship. This law limited naturalization to immigrants who were free white persons of good character. It excluded American Indians, indentured servants, slaves and free African-Americans. It also provided for citizenship for the children of U.S. citizens born abroad, stating that such children "shall be considered as natural born citizens." It also specified that the right of citizenship did "not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States."

In order for one to be considered to be of good character, the law required two years of residence in the United States and one year in the state of residence, prior to applying for citizenship. When those requirements were met, an immigrant could file a Petition for Naturalization with "any common law court of record" having jurisdiction over his residence. Once convinced of the applicant’s good moral character, the court would administer an oath of allegiance to support the Constitution of the United States. The clerk of the court was to make a record of these proceedings, and "thereupon such person shall be considered as a citizen of the United States."

It is hoped that with the facts we can cease the unimpeded deluge of sanctimonious BS being foisted on us by the less able and devious liars currently rending their garments.

The oft quoted poem by Lazerus was never part of the Statue of Liberty. It was used to finance the pedestal on which the statue stands. I wonder how the anti-Semite Democrats would think about the words of Emma Lazerus if they knew she was a very wealthy Jew.

Carter can't tell the difference between lawful immigration and invasion. Boy, I'm glad I never took up smoking dope - it fries your brain, makes you unemployable, and it makes you unaware of how stupid you appear to others.

I believe Trump is on the verge of repenting his hard stance on illegal immigration. He is definitely on the right track ,thinking about letting them cross and shipping them directly to sanctuary states......Liberal heads are exploding and their hearts are closing.

Thomas, wonderful

Thomas, wonderful contributions, all. Nothing to dispute.
Here's the problem.
The law which President Reagan signed has proved to be unenforceable.
Consequently, politicians and interest groups have been proposing reforms for years.
EG, George W. Bush pushed for comprehensive immigration reform, which was batted down with the help of Bernie Sanders and Big Labor, along with the Ann Coulter faction who think anything short of sending people home is "amnesty."
In the years since then, the teams have hardened their positions on immigration, the better to keep the issue alive and win them votes.

Trump promised to enforce the existing law, which his voters wanted, and to work with Congress to fix it.
Congress has no intention of fixing it or of letting Trump enforce current law.

No one looks good on this.

I've come to the realization

I've come to the realization that the left has no intention of acknowledging the truth. Their goals are more important.

Deflection requires accusing the other side of what you intend to do... then you can do it while they are on the defensive. The MSM will make sure nobody notices.

Conflation combines ideas into one, refusing to recognize any distinction. Thus, this thread attempts to make *all* immigration the same. By refusing to recognize illegal immigration as something different, they justify treating it the same as legal. They know it isn't - the posts above are about LEGAL immigration not ILLEGAL - they just don't care. It serves their interests to deceive.

That was a deliberate attempt to conflate legal and illegal immigration, and you know it. So do we.

Yes, when done BEFORE entering the country illegally. More conflation. Do you ever debate honestly, or is every position a lie?
