"Birth Tourism" -- the Newest Scam on American Immigration Policies

I recently saw a shocking documentary about an immigration racket being run for parents from China, who want to have an "anchor" baby in the USA. The homes provide upscale accommodations for pregnant Chinese mothers, including total pre-birth and post-birth care, along with assistance in gaining the birth certificate/documentation to prove their child is a US resident through birth.

The parents take the child back to China, for now, with the aim of sending them back later on, to obtain college and housing advantages.

This practice (sadly) is technically legal, although it smells to high heaven.

(For)... $30,000....Chinese families bring home a child with dual citizenship. The websites explain... child born with US citizenship opens up many opportunities for the entire family...potentially worth more than $30,0000. They list Harvard education as a “selling point”...along with ...opportunity to get Green cards for the entire family.

I'm a bit surprised that NBC is the network to first (as far as I know) unveil this whole scheme. While America sleeps our sovereignty is being slowly taken away. Unbelievable.

I was pretty surprised at the documentary source, myself, BlueJay.

As always on these kinds of issues, I wonder what would happen if an American family tried to do the same thing in another country, like China, or Mexico.

Would giving birth to a baby in those countries automatically confer nationality for our own children? Would it even be allowed to happen, in the first place?

Somehow, I suspect the answer would be "no way."

SAN GABRIEL, Calif. — ....snip

For months, officials say, the house was home to “maternity tourists,” in this case, women from China who had paid tens of thousands of dollars to deliver their babies in the United States, making the infants automatic American citizens. Officials shut down the home, sending the 10 mothers who had been living there with their babies to nearby motels.
