I think you need at least 3 mbps speed, 5 is ok. above is preferred.
ps i think it may be on demand Blaze not live streaming of Blaze.
EDIT: just got an email, the Blaze is live streamed on Roku
The sore spot of adding the Blaze on dish is you have to upgrade to a package that costs $85/month. I have a Roku still sitting in the package it came in. Maybe it's time to unwrap it and give it a go. I'm certainly not getting 85 bucks worth out of dish.
I recall like it was yesterday,it was in the early-mid 1980s. Painting a house, going up and down a ladder, while listening to the David Brudnoy Show on an outdoor radio.. He had a representative of a satellite TV company and he was promoting the coming future of satellite TV. It would have "over 500 channels, no commercials, and $12 a month" Arrogant, abusive, greedy, monopolistic Cable TV companies were running the show at the time so satellite TV looked like a superman coming to the rescue.
For a short time satellite TV was a bargain, than they turned into arrogant, abusive, greedy, monopolistic companies with paid commercial shows, pop-up commercials during shows, editing/cutting shows and movies to add more commercials, speeding up shows to add more commercial time, and a bunch of channels that show the same movies over and over and over again for years. All while raising the monthly bill to over $100 UP.
With Roku here in 2015, i am paying about $12 a month, close to over 500 channels and can watch free or a at low cost, almost every movie, every tv show that has been made, i can watch, when i want,as well as i can watch local news channels and listen to thousands of different radio stations. if not in the mood to watch TV, via the Ustream channel, can put the live cam of the Ospreys off the Maine coast or Niagara Falls or the FFRC cat cam on the big screen
WABI Channel 5 is now on Roku via the Livestream: and can watched on your big screen HDTV in HD
... at the low cost of FREEhttp://livestream.com/accounts/12241036/events/3881825
Howie Carr [when on the air] can be watched on Roku via Livestream and can be watched on your big screen HDTVhttp://livestream.com/accounts/11966891/events/3786101
CNN live and MTV LIVE via CCLOUD [somewhat challenging and jumping though some hoops to get these going on your Roku.] i will see if i can find a direct link
Many thanks for keeping us up to date on alternatives to cable and satellite - it is appreciated.
I get many PMs from AMGers on this thread that never or almost never post.
Cable Ripoff and Satellite Ripoff PAY TV:
"Gets Ugly: U.S. Pay-TV Sector Drops 566,000 Customers"
August 8, 2015
Cable, satellite... suffered their worst-ever quarterly subscriber declines for the three months ended June 30, collectively shedding more than half a million accounts — an accelerating erosion ...
“There is clear and convincing evidence that consumers are increasingly cutting the cord or shaving the cord,
One thing seems certain: The hemorrhaging in the pay-TV business is going to get worse before it bottoms out.https://www.yahoo.com/movies/s/cord-cutting-gets-ugly-u-pay-tv-sector-12...
I have no used Apple TV enough to comment. Along with Amazon TV.
Both have their positives and few negatives. Our use is predicated on being able to get programming that is not on our cable system.
I am not fully sold on Apple TV mainly because it is not as user friendly IMO as Amazon. Searching items etc..
Cost consideration the Apple was cheaper to buy than Amazon.
We have limited our paid for services to Netflix and Acorn TV only. We are doing a trial on Hulu but will not purchase it at end of trial.
The one thing you haven't mentioned is the fact while these services might hurt cable providers ,one still has to pay for internet access
to use them.
Can you get any conservative content on Apple TV? We have been Apple people since 1987. Great computers, but the company political philosophy is out there.
Right. Equally, i would like to get rid of my monthly Internet access bill like the satellite monthly bill.
I barely can afford just one.
Besides the high cost of satellite /cable TV..It is the ads. I watched about 2 hours of satellite TV in a motel last week for the first time in about 10 years, i could not take it.
Satellite /cable TV is watching ads, after ads, after ads, after ads, after ads, after ads. after ads. Ads popping in the in the middle of shows. All ad programing shows. Shows on satellite are edited to make room for more ads. From what i read online ads are starting to sneak into the 'no ads pay premium channels' on satellite/cable.
Definition of Satellite /cable TV:pay $100plus a month to watch ads, occasionally with some programs* intertwined.
*programs may be edited to allow more ad watching.
Internet streaming media box TV, there are ads but one can control the ads. Hulu Plus has many ads but they have realized the public is suffering from 'ad exhaustion'. In the Fall Hulu Plus will offer 'no ad Hulu plus'. Of course the monthly cost is going up
I have tried Chromecast[never could get it connected to the TV]. There are several other media boxes, Roku is the best so far. Among the reasons, excellent customer service, i accidentally ordered a channel once, emailed them, the next day the debit money that was taken out was back in my account--no struggle.
dont know about Apple, Roku offers a couple including this one:http://www.conservativechannel.net/
The frequency and length of advertisements is making television unwatchable.
Channel 6 was off the air for DISH viewers[another contract dispute again] for a couple of weeks.
Although there is no Channel 6 and Channel 2 live streaming on streaming media boxes like Roku, made a script anyone can use for Channel 2,6 so you can watch live streaming on Roku.
Hulu Plus just went commercial free. Given a choice would dump Netflick before Hulu now. For one, Me-TV just became very obsolete.
Paramount just released 100 free movieshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzMVH2jEyEwXPBvyht8xQNw/featured
Roku 4 is coming out next week. Not buying it. Roku 3 is good enough
I have a roku, can you tell me what the channel codes are for 2, and 6?
Have the script made 3 years ago already to go for watching Channel 2 via the Playon channel on Roku. Playon is an excellent company, excellent customer service but you have to pay for the Playon channel,. In order to make Channel 2 or 6 to work on Roku without using the Playon channel, i have to make a Roku channel script. Waiting for my next vacation time in Nov. to do that.
If anyone does have Playon, this script would give you Channel 2:http://www.playonscripts.com/?w=view&id=1118
I tried Playon before, but my computer wasn't fast enough to stream to the Roku. I was hoping it was a roku channel code.

"How to Create a Roku Channel in 5 Minutes" [ not really 5 minutes]
I already pay DirecTv $77 a month to watch Fox News and (the wife) ... Lifetime. DirecTv keeps jiggering the network lineup so the Barrett Jackson auction in late January will be on Velocity - which will cost me $10 more a month since it requires HD equipment.
I spent a few hours today trying to find another way to watch the car auctions on Velocity live - and have so far not found a way.
Any suggestions on how I might watch Velocity live for a week for less than $120 a year?
Threw the pseudo conservative-Fox Channel out the window with the satellite dish several years ago.
For one Sean Hannity is a welfare slum owner that harbors illegal aliens as tenets Two, i think Fox and the satellite companies sleep in bed with each other to make consumers have to buy the pricey program packages to get the Fox channels.
Playon has Velocity, not sure if it is on demand or live. If you email Playon they will give you a one free month trial. I bought Playon for 2 years when they had a monthly plan. Checked the Pear Channel and Filmon Channel, negative on Velocity. Give them time, they will have it.
Somewhere along this thread is an above average recommendation for Playon. Although a great Channel[actually a server] Playon in its time,an Icon,a Greek God,etc., Playon is staring to become irrelevant as Roku and other streaming media boxes mature and offer selections that were only on Playon at one time.
Playon has excellent customer service and was the first Internet business to offer a live streaming of a Maine TV news channel, WLBZ, way back in 2008, which is still available on Playon. But Playon is a shell of its old self.
So a downgrade for buying Playon now. Perhaps they may come up with something inventive again to avoid going to the land of VCRs and 8Track tapes
Found these two gems in the past month. You will like Pear Channel. Takes a little extra effort to get the channel set up. Pear Channel quickly became one my 5 top channels on Roku,
[Variety Shows, Sports shows]
