AMG MIAs

Was looking for a past thread from a few years ago.
Started looking backwards from page 784 of public square .I counted at least
72 very active names from years past that no longer post. I stopped listing from page 781.

I wonder where these voices are now.

This forum does not suspend

This forum does not suspend or ban those who insist on being immature and/or vulgar. This makes it very difficult to stay. An ignore or block option would help, if only a little.

I never have fully understood that.
Because while I disagree w/ the lack of editorial policing the site is actually no different.
As far as expulsions, well were they really any different than some in past ?

History has proven ignoring the Smegma brothers doesn't work . A long advised tactic that was totally wrong.
Immaturity ? You weren't here when Woodcock candidacy came about were you or Susans' office manager was the chosen one.

Yup. I miss more

Yup. I miss more participants than I can count.

In no particular order, Francisz, Virgil Kane, FLAMMENWERFER, Thrasybulus, Alan Toth, Eagleisland, EWV, PMH, apondsong, and many other intelligent and sincere posters used to contribute here. And among them, SKF, who would initiate posts and, more important, intercede when a thread lost focus, or needed a referee. Scott made this site a means to expand ideas- to work through complex arguments without the smug and vulgar hooting of those for whom argument from authority is the only form of persuasion they can even attempt.

It's obvious that a lot of newbies - and a few veterans - have nothing to contribute but noise.

It's the hypocrisy that amazes me. I've just taken my annual anti-harassment training at work. Their behavior would definitely qualify... which I find typical among liberals. Only they are privileged - only they can abuse anyone they want.

History has proven ignoring

History has proven ignoring the Smegma brothers doesn't work .

History has proven that you never tried. Perhaps you should also consider the possibility that this forum is dead because you people are stupid. Who wants to seriously engage with half-wits?

There was no need to try. I figured it out very quickly.
Sans your schtick of vulgarity and rudeness ,occasionally you make good point.
Since evidently you think that of others on AMG ,then obviously you would be capable of engaging
us half -wits successfully . But you don't ,do you?

Bruce, since you can't even write in English, there is nothing to lead me to believe that you can think in it. You're an idiot.

Writing stupid people to tell

Writing stupid people to tell them they're stupid is not only umpersuasive, it's futile. It's an ego trip to validate one's anger; a sort of intellectual masturbation.

Persuasion requires one both to be charitably disposed toward another's viewpoint and to expose one's own ideas to criticism. This applies to "conservatives" as well as "liberals."

When one lives in a bubble, everyone on the outside is stupid.

If you post anything that

If you post anything that opposes or is contrary to the Progressive view you get WTF but no defense of the Progressive position because it is indefensible. It is no wonder why people do not want to side with the opposition. I think those folks ae still out there but want to avoid the WTF folks because it is a losing cause. On this blog they cannot talk over them like they can in a public forum. Why do you think only conservatives or opposing thinkers are exposed to this kind of conduct? On this blog they can't talk over you so they use ridicule and invective to dissuade your questioning their position. It is why I try to ignore it and refuse to respond to their comments on my post when all they can say is WTF or call you smegma.. They do not wish debate. What they want is silence. Unfortunately I won't be silenced and am thick skinned enough to ignore their inane behavior. Have you ever noticed that the smallest people seem to have the loudest voices.

The WTF is you and your refusal to do differently.
First if you want to discuss Smegma ,there is only two, I can explain again what was behind it.
There is no debate with you a fact you have proven time and time again.
Better yet talk to the creator of the name.

Bruce, you sound just like

Bruce, you sound just like Trump whining about how Hillary started the whole Obama wasn't born here thing. Even if true, Trump deserves the credit for escalating it to dizzying heights. Same for you, douchebag. You own it.

I will take that under

I will take that under consideration as soon as one of them acknowledges it as so.
Until then thank you Smegma.

Isn't it ironic that PM function has become so infrequently used.

Well said. Many other names come to mind. Hopefully they're just biding their time as Mel said earlier.

Bruce, I often find your "atrocious misuse of the English language" hysterical to read.

lucky is right. Your jabs at the vulgar drones who lurk here offer some needed levity as we bide our time.

Agreed, BlueJay.

Agreed, BlueJay.

I've often chuckled, at myself (!), as I tried to decipher Bruce's innovative constructions, especially when I first arrived here. But I've never dismissed him as a dumbass. I find Bruce's comments refreshing and well-informed.

Changing the subject, malice is not persuasive. Anger validation might be therapeutic, or not, but it's rude to assume that others are interested.

Johnny one note has to say it

Johnny one note has to say it is a change of times. Consider how much the internet has changed in 20 years? How many websites have forums that were a bit harder to find 10 years ago. Many go there now, it is a consolidation of like minds.

Also you have the familiarity of the discussions between past combatants and the moving on of those from any forum. Point George, point Scott, Naran, many others.

You've got the debacle of the Iraq War that really ramped up AMG, the patriots, then you had the Obama years, the paultards, the whole disillusion of what some hoped for and what became. The list goes on Lepage, the corporate media, Trump, Hilliary, etc.

Politics and the economy, the corporate media are so corrupt and unknown that who knows why debating on AMG has any value other than cheap entertainment.

I still like cheap entertainment
