So... I guess I'm giving up on Maine.

Gonna sign the paperwork to list all my commercial property in Maine and give up on it once and for all.

I've been in NH for almost 4 years and loving it.
Same quality of life as Maine, but less taxes, less government and more opportunity.
Guess I'm not the only one thinking this way... From today's SunUrinal.

Pressman, you may already

Pressman, you may already know this but unless your accountant is more clever than mine you will be paying Maine income taxes for a long while because the property is in Maine. If you don't hold any of the mortgage papers the pain will be brief. You will pay all the cap gains and probably be free. If you hold a mortgage the income will be taxable by Me until it is paid. Out of staters are required to pay all the cap gains at the time of sale. This can be claimed back in future filings if it is an installment payment. If you bite the bullet and let them keep all the gains you might be able to get out of future tax filings.

I don't know what your situation Pressman, but cap gains (& real estate commissions) can be painful. We do have a GOP president/house/senate, if I were you, I'd wait for tax reform to happen (assuming you think it actually will) first.

BDN neglected to provide a link for the other 32. Absent that, NH is still the obvious choice.

Thanks for all the tax advice

Thanks for all the tax advice.
I am a NH resident now. I lose about $12k a year on my Maine businesses.
I will likely have to write a check to get out of the properties.

On a happier note, I hear that NH Snowmobiles Clubs might be filing a class action lawsuit against Maine because they can't ride over the border at will. A conflict with free interstate commerce. You can cross the border by boat, motorcycle, rv, car but not ATVs and Snowmobiles? Nonsense.

Western Maine could use more NH dollars... that is unless you think the economy is great in Oxford and Western York Counties.

Funny thing i my wifes'

Funny thing i my wifes' family consists of 3 cousins who are longtime NH residents all with adult childen who live there also.
Occaisional family gatherings reveal aboutthe same pissing and moaning about economic issues etc. as we are presented with here.

The true mark of a native is not caring and respecting an individuals' choice in such matters.
Live long and prosper ,happy for you , we do not need the implied negatives directed at others.

Brucie, you have some pretty thin skin to take this innocuous thread so personally. You really need to grow a pair, too.

Smegma I am in total belief

Smegma I am in total belief that AMG already has sufficient purveyors of filth, trash and superior
intellectualy posts to cover all the alledged shortcomings of the rest of us. Now take your GRM T shirt and wipe off the discharge so Matt won't slip on it while taking trash out of basement for mummy.

Am I allowed to give BL a rimshot?

But.... in other news, Pravda on the Penobscot has our dearly loved sponsor featured in today's online pages performing a whupping of the GOP.
Wouldn't this qualify as self flagellation?

The intellectual backbone of

The intellectual backbone of the Republican Party is broken, and this has caused our party to languish in a fetid swamp of stupidity so grotesque that our president and our governor cannot establish a moral difference between the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
