Press conference today on missing toddler

WATERVILE — Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey will host a press conference at 2 p.m. today in the Waterville City Council Chambers regarding the disappearance of 20-month-old child Ayla Reynol
Massey said it's possible the toddler let herself out of the house and simply walked away and that is part of the investigation. It's also possible the child was abducted, police said. http://www.pressherald.com/news/Press-conference-today-on-missing-toddle...
I raised four children and can't imagine that someone could come into my house and steal my child without being heard.
I used to wake up at the slightest noise when I had a baby or toddler in the house.
"WATERVILLE — Law enforcement and citizen search parties combed the Violette Avenue neighborhood Sunday where 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds was reported missing Saturday morning.
By afternoon Sunday, the toddler, dressed only in pajamas and wearing a soft cast from a broken arm, had not been found. The FBI has been called in to assist state and local police and the Maine Warden Service.
The little girl was last seen sleeping in her bed at 8 p.m. Friday, Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey told reporters in a 2 p.m. news conference. She was reported missing at about 9 a.m. Saturday.">>>.......................
"DESPAIR: Maine State Police Detective Christopher Tupper, left, and Waterville Detective Lincoln Ryder, at right, question Justin DiPietro after he arrived at his home on Violette Ave. in Waterville on Sunday as an extensive search was underway at his home and the neighborhood for his 20- month- old daughter Ayla Reynolds who has been missing since Friday."
"Ayla Reynolds, wearing a soft cast from a broken arm, was last seen sleeping in her bed at about 10 p.m. Friday. Her father reported her missing Saturday at 8:51 a.m. when he said he found an empty bed. The child lives at 29 Violette Ave., off Cool Street.
Police today identified the parents as Justin DiPietro and Trista Reynolds."
Reading through comments in the news articles here and there and seeing this mother's myspace page, it would seem that mother is fairly young, and has recently had a second child with another man, not married. On that page she also commented about loving kids and was so looking forward to new baby coming as well. Just very very sad all the way around. I hope and pray they find this little girl safe, and that it's a custodial tiff/abduction and not something much worse.
The mother is transient in Portland with a 9 month old baby staying in a motel. DHHS took the little girl and placed her with the father in October.
Beautiful little girl. I hope and pray for the best, but fear the worst.
mainemom "Of the several adults who were in the house the night Ayla disappeared, how many were sober?"
----Several adults in a small house and no one saw anything,'no one knows nothing'.
The partying at residences was so bad in my neighborhood this weekend; Friday,Sat.,and last night[Sun] , i actually posted a thread on it. The welfare recipients,The BOOZE, the POT, partyiers leaving all drugged up. Sorry, I know where this story is heading.
With hindsight, and age, I find myself looking back at my childhood and sometimes wish my parents had done a few inconsequential things a little differently, but I am eternally grateful, however, that they loved me and did their best to raise me to be a good person.
I cannot imagine any child having to grow up in circumstances like this one seems to be. I too agree that we know where this is probably going.
Sad! But until we stop making it a lucrative situation, for certain people to have children, I don't see this getting any better real soon.
Whenever I hear of a child being abducted, the first question that pops into my mind is" Was it a parental abduction?" which I think is a different kind of thing than an abduction by a stranger. Reading about the custody issues related to this case, I can't help but wonder if the contentious legal system is somehow to blame for these incidents.

WC, I agree with you all the way. The only time I was ever scared at home was when my sister and I were watching a horror movie!!! (Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" comes to mind). My family was very structured, secure, with appropriate boundaries and yet respected us as individuals as well. My grandparents lived next door (all on the family farm) and if I got bored at home, sometimes I would go over and spend the night at my grandparents and sit up half the night playing cribbage with Grandpa. I spent the night because I didn't like to walk along the woods to go home after dark.
It's very sad when kids are brought into unsafe situations by the very people who are supposed to protect and nurture them.

"WATERVILLE — A section of Messalonskee Stream was drained overnight as investigators on today continued to look for clues in the disappearance of toddler Ayla Reynolds.
Investigators examined Dumpsters, garages, backyards, ball fields and small wooded areas near the Violette Avenue home where the 20-month-old girl was last seen sleeping in her bed"
I am so hoping that one of these families has taken her to hide her and not fight a custody battle. But if that were the case it seems they would have gotten to the bottom of it by now. These seem to be very troubled people and I fear the worst for this little one.

WATERVILLE — The father of missing toddler Ayla Reynolds said Tuesday night he has no idea what happened to his daughter.
In a statement released through the Waterville Police Department, Justin DiPietro said, “I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until the police have been able to prove who is responsible for this.”
I pray they find this little girl alive! We don't know what we don't know about any evidence gathered and will have to rely on the police to do their part.

No mention of how this child's arm came to be broken in the first place; nor if there are any records of prior problems in the home.
I hope she is found safe.
I too hope she is found safe.
I raised four children and can't imagine that someone could come into my house and steal my child without being heard.
I used to wake up at the slightest noise when I had a baby or toddler in the house.
Something is fishy about this.
This type of story sends shivers down the spine of every loving parent.
The #1 job as a parent is the well being of a child.
Several red flags on this one! Pray for this poor child.
It seems there are always red flags and fishy smells in such items. How often does such a child just decide to wander off in the cold?
Exactly Melvin! The immediate normal reaction would be for the child to return to where its warm.

Major red-flag, and indicator of societal decay:
Father and mother don't have same last name, and baby has the mother's last name, not the father's.
As in, baby was a 'surprise.'
Keep a look out please need to find this little girl

Of the several adults who were in the house the night Ayla disappeared, how many were sober?
A child of that age doesn't break bones without significant impact.
The time frame is suspicious.
The Grandfather is the only one openly emotional and ready to do whatever it takes to get her back.
The photo of Father in yard shows a SUV with a USMC window decail, possible prior service record.
Facebook is lighting up with Maine people sharing information as it comes in.

Mother looks strung out to me, but maybe it's just the current situation.
One news report said the mother just got out of rehab which is why her 9 month old child was taken by DHHS. Such a sad, sad situation.
