Susan Collins on Partial-Birth Abortion

NOW makes a bad choice in the abortion debate
Kathleen Parker April 23, 2003 Future public-relations students someday will study what may become known as "The Mavra Stark Mistake." Not since Goliath smirked at David has a battle's likely outcome been so miscalculated.Stark, if that apt name doesn't quite ring a bell, is the president of the National Organization for Women's Morris County, N.J., chapter who is protesting the double-murder charge in the Laci Peterson case. Her protest was prompted by California prosecutors' decision to charge Scott Peterson with murdering both his wife, Laci, and their unborn baby, Conner -a move that the rabidly pro-choice contingent fears could potentially impact women's "right" to late-term abortions. In a statement that wowed the "Doh" crowd, Stark said: "If this is murder, well, then any time a late-term fetus is aborted, they could call it murder."Why, yes, they could. And some already do.

Susan Collins on Partial-Birth Abortion

Received a response letter from Susan Collins today. I'd sent an e-mail when she voted against the ban on Partial-Birth Abortion (which, thankfully, passed the Senate with votes from enough Democrats -- even Tom Daschle!!)Anyway, the first several sentences of the letter are:"Thank you for contacting me to express your support for S.3, the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.""Let me state at the outset that I am opposed to ALL late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions. I agree that they should be banned..."The remainder of the letter went to great lengths to explain how she wants an exception to protect the health of the mother; that she co-sponsored such an amendment with Senator Durbin that banned even more abortions than Partial-Birth Abortions... blah, blah, blah......BUT the Bottom Line is that she still voted against the ban on Partial-Birth Abortions.Anybody else get a letter like this? My better sense tells me not to buy a word of it -- that it looks too much like a politician trying to weasel out of taking a stand; or trying to explain away the vote she cast to make NOW happy! It reminds me too much of Clinton and Welfare Reform! He was AGAINST the whole idea, but signed the bill into law -- hmmmm... and the explanations shifted with different audiences...

How does a person sleep at night knowing they support such a gruesome act?

Re: Susan Collins on Partial-Birth Abortion

Count me as one more person who's concerned about the health of the mother, but just so I'm sure of my facts maybe someone can clear something up for me. If I'm a doctor with an 8-1/2 month old fetus partly delivered, at what point [if I don't plunge scissors into his skull and suck his brains out] does he become a danger to the mother's health? Susie? Anybody?

Re: Susan Collins on Partial-Birth Abortion

This is nothing more than a bunch of lies. She knows the health of the mother is never the question when it comes to partial birth abortion. She is lying. So is Snowne. That makes two sins she is committing. She is a Catholic and the church needs to find the guts to deal with her. She needs to be shamed and called to account for this vote and her excuses. She should not get away with this. If she can return to her roots, she will be a much better senator and has the chance to be a great senator. It takes courage to stand for what's right, she has the courage if she will only use it.

Snowe is running all over the state this week in a panic because she is being takan to task by conservatives for opposing the president. She even dragged the Labor Sec. up here. She knows she can be beaten in a primary, if anyone out there is cnsidering such, they should be encouraged by the fact she is home getting photo opts. this week instead of being down south with Jock playing golf.
